Pharmacist Awareness Week
March 3-9, 2008
Pharmacist Awareness Week (PAW) 2008
is an opportunity to celebrate the profession, our evolving role in the health
care system, our collaboration with other providers, and our role as advocates
for quality health care.
During PAW 2008, take action and solidify the gains
pharmacists have made in recent years. There is increased understanding about
the importance of "optimal drug use" by Canadians, and of the need for an
expanded role for pharmacists in primary health care teams, homecare and
pharmacare. Pharmacists need to continue to reinforce their role as drug
experts as governments grapple with designing and implementing programs to
achieve these aims.
Use this year's message to remind patients, politicians and
the media that drugs only become effective medicine with proper care.
Pharmacists, with their years of specific training in medications and how they
work, are ideally situated to offer such care and are already doing so. Use PAW
to help all Canadians understand how very much pharmacists contribute to
patients' overall health now, and how much more we could be doing.
